Kanak Bhawan – The Golden Palace of Ayodhya

Kanak Bhawan, located near Hanuman Garhi in Ayodhya, is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. According to legend, it was gifted to Sita by Queen Kaikeyi after her marriage to Ram. “Kanak” means gold, and it is believed the palace was richly decorated with gold, hence the name “Sone ka Bhawan”.

This divine palace became Sita’s personal residence and symbolizes her royal welcome into Ayodhya. Devotees believe the divine couple still reside here spiritually. Though the original structure is ancient, the present-day temple was reconstructed in 1891 AD by Queen Vrish Bhanu of Orchha, a devoted follower of Ram.

The temple showcases a unique blend of Bundelkhandi and Awadhi architecture, featuring intricately carved walls, colorful ceilings, and golden idols of Ram and Sita, standing together with Lakshman. It is one of the few temples where Sita holds the central place, symbolizing equality and love.

Kanak Bhawan is a major spiritual site, especially during Ram Navami and Diwali, attracting thousands of pilgrims. With its golden charm and divine aura, the temple reflects the timeless love of Ram and Sita and remains a treasured part of Ayodhya’s spiritual heritage.
